About the Role

As the Communications and Social Media Officer at Meli, you'll be responsible for written communications, shaping compelling narratives that highlight the stories of the individuals we support, engage with, and collaborate with to strengthen our communities.

Working closely with the Corporate Communications Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing our Brand, Communications, and Media Strategy through impactful written communication. Your knack for storytelling will be evident as you play a key role in shaping Meli's social media, amplifying our brand voice, and contributing to initiatives that foster meaningful connections within our community. 

  • Craft Compelling Communications: Develop polished written content for both internal and external audiences, ensuring it aligns with Meli's values and maintains consistency and timeliness. Showcase a diverse range of voices and experiences to encourage engagement and empathy. 
  • Elevate Meli's Brand: Strengthen Meli’s presence in the community through various written channels, including traditional media, digital platforms, and social media. Assist in crafting content and distributing it, prepare media releases, and nurture partnerships to boost awareness of Meli's services and brand.
  • Lead Social Media Strategy: Take charge of Meli’s social media policy and strategy, coordinating activities across platforms for organic growth and engagement. Stay updated on social media developments, research management tools, and integrate new social tools into the website to expand Meli’s social media audience and provide analytics for informed decision-making.
  • Foster Collaboration and Innovation: Cultivate a positive team environment within the Outcomes and Strategic Engagement Division, fostering a performance-driven and innovative culture. Provide support to other program areas, participate in organizational projects, and build relationships with relevant organizations for communication innovation, while adhering to Meli's quality and risk management frameworks and values.

About You

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related fields lays the foundation for effective storytelling in this role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, with solid experience crafting media releases, internal corporate communications, and persuasive speech writing.
  • Proficiency in managing and developing content specifically for digital platforms and a demonstrated ability to strategically engage on social media are crucial, especially within community services or education sectors, where the power of narrative can drive meaningful change. 
  • Ability to build and nurture strong stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally, fostering collaboration and facilitating effective communication channels.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for empowering clients to share their stories, coupled with a genuine commitment to driving meaningful change through compelling narratives across various communication channels.
