About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Senior Financial Counsellor to join our team in Horsham. In this role, you will provide essential financial counselling and support to individuals and families in North West Victoria who are eligible for assistance under DSS and CAV funding criteria.
Key Objectives:
- Deliver a strength-based financial counselling service, aiming to stabilize current financial difficulties and support long-term financial capability improvements for individuals and families.
- Provide direct casework, advocacy, negotiation, referrals, and community education to service users experiencing financial distress, including those facing issues such as family violence and other co-morbidities.
- Supervise financial counselling students and mentor less experienced financial counselling employees, fostering a supportive and educational environment.
- Travel across North West and South West Victoria, working from various office and co-located locations. Overnight stays may be required, and flexible working arrangements are available to accommodate these needs.
- Assist in expanding our financial counselling services into new areas, demonstrating innovation and flexibility to meet the evolving needs of our community.

About You
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- A qualification in Financial Counselling and demonstrated post qualifying professional practice.
- Eligibility for membership of The Financial and Consumer Rights Council Inc. (FCRC) and able to meet the standards, training and supervision requirements set by FCRC.
- An understanding of relevant legislation.
- Current knowledge of the practices of financial institutions and effective service delivery models, with the ability to work within such frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to advise and provide financial information to families and individuals to assist in the resolution of financial issues at various levels including crisis intervention, intake and assessment, and planned financial counselling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including advanced proficiency in written and verbal communication skills.
