About the Opportunity

Join Meli as our Team Leader Home Based Care and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people aged 0-17. In this role, you’ll lead a committed team of case managers and support workers, ensuring foster care placements provide safe, stable, and nurturing environments.

The key objectives of this role are:

  • Oversee and coordinate the work of the Home Based Care case management and case support teams to ensure that the placement needs of children and young people in care are met in accordance with program requirements and DFFH standards.
  • In conjunction with Manager Care Services, manage foster care placements including placement referrals, matching of children and young people into appropriate foster care placements, allocation of cases, carer reimbursement levels and coordination of respite arrangements.
  • Provide an effective case management service to support the care of children and young people who are in home-based care placement, including children and young people supported through a Targeted Care Package.
  • Provide support and supervision to home-based carers, including supporting them to provide the day-to-day care of the children and young people placed in their care.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for the Home Based Care team including supervision of the home based care case workers and support workers.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Diploma of Welfare Studies or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in delivering casework and therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge of the child protection and out of home care systems
  • Experience and knowledge in home based care system and/or in child protection including relevant legislation, policy and procedures, theoretical and practice frameworks; and the ability to integrate this knowledge into case practice 
  • Experience in supervising staff and/or leading a team
  • Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
