Support Healing and Hope for Children Affected by Family Violence

Are you a compassionate and skilled practitioner who believes in the power of safe, therapeutic relationships to support recovery? We are seeking a dedicated Children’s Counsellor to provide trauma-informed therapeutic support through the Supporting Children after Separation Program (SCaSP).

About the Role

As a Children’s Counsellor, you will:

  • Provide developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed counselling to children and young people impacted by family violence
  • Conduct MARAM-informed assessments and safety planning in collaboration with children and their carers
  • Develop and review therapeutic care plans that prioritise the child’s voice, safety, and wellbeing
  • Offer guidance and support to primary carers to strengthen their capacity to nurture and protect
  • Facilitate group work and provide secondary consultations to internal and external professionals
  • Deliver services in a flexible, culturally responsive way—both onsite and through outreach

  • Permanent, Part-time position
  • 0.8 FTE working 30.4 hours per week
  • $106,644 (pro-rata) p/a + Super + Salary Packaging

What We're Looking For

We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or related human services or behavioural sciences, including family violence.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling, play therapy, or consultations for children, young people, and their families.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child development, trauma theory, attachment theory, grief and loss, and issues of a complex nature such as family violence that may impact upon a child/young person’s development.
  • An understanding of evidence based therapeutic approaches to children’s counselling.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive assessments and children’s counselling interventions, particularly utilising family violence frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the broader client services system, legislation, support services and organisations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service integration and service collaboration for better service user outcomes.
