Are you passionate about providing therapeutic support to children and young people? We’re looking for a dedicated Children's Counsellor or Senior Children’s Counsellor to provide specialised counselling services to children under 18 and their families, helping them navigate complex relationships and challenges.
About the Role
As the Children's Counsellor or Senior Children’s Counsellor, you will:
- Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based counselling to children, young people, and families to strengthen relationships and promote wellbeing.
- Support children within the context of their family to enhance relationships during and after family separation.
- Conduct intake assessments and referrals, ensuring the best interests of the child are prioritised.
- Deliver school readiness professional development training to kindergarten educators as part of the Victorian Education Department’s funding initiative.
- Contribute to program development and evaluation, ensuring continuous improvement in service delivery.
In addition to the responsibilities above, the Senior Children's Counsellor will:
- Provide supervision for counselling students and mentoring for new counselling graduates and less experienced employees.
Position Details
- Fixed term position until 29 January 2026
- 0.6 FTE working 45 hours per fortnight or 0.8 FTE working 60.8 hours per fortnight
- $97,614 (pro-rata) p/a - $106,644 (pro-rata) p/a + Super + Salary Packaging

What We're Looking For
We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years’ experience providing therapeutic counselling, play therapy, or consultations for children, young people, and families.
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development, trauma theory, attachment, grief and loss, and family violence impacts on children.
- Experience in conducting assessments and delivering evidence-based counselling interventions tailored to individual needs.
- A strong commitment to collaborative service delivery and integration, working with both internal teams and external agencies to improve outcomes for children and families.
